Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Alex To QPR Appears To Be Dead
It's difficult to figure out whether this is good news or bad news - I suppose that depends entirely on how much one dislikes selling to Premier League clubs - but it looks like the Alex to Queens Park Rangers deal is finally dead. Negotiations between Chelsea and QPR were advanced enough that Alex was given permission to open up talks with Mark Hughes's side, but his £60,000 per week wages with the Blues was simply too much for Rangers to be able to take on.
It might be considered bad news that the transfer of a defender that Chelsea absolutely have to get rid of for basically whatever price they can get has fallen through. Fear not, for there are alternatives. The Brazilian is being linked to Paris Saint-Germain, a team that definitely can afford to throw around that sort of money for a defender who's still very capable, despite his rustiness this season. We all know that Alex will be leaving this window (the Blues fielding five senior centre backs in their first team squad would be amazingly stupid, and nobody else is going anywhere), and there's no reason to think that we're going to fail to shift him just yet.
One interesting point this miniature saga (sagette?) brings up is the difficulty Chelsea will always have in shifting players around. While we like to think that being a regular Premier League and Champions League contender* is why so many good players want to join the club, the simple truth is that we pay our footballers a lot of money, and that's a - possibly the - major draw of Chelsea Football club.
*Ish. I'll have more to say on this later, I suspect.
But when you're looking to sell a player on relatively high wages, you're faced with a number of problems. You either have to convince the player in question to take a pay cut or sell to teams that can a) afford said player and b) for whom he would constitute an upgrade. That's a difficult problem, and one that seriously constrains just how much money Chelsea can make while selling players.
Paris Saint-Germain are, obviously, a team which fits both A and B, but if that falls through... maybe Shanghai are looking for defenders?

The last bit you mentioned on our wage structure
Is this something you see lessening in the future? Or will we have this expectation of us overpaying for talent for the foreseeable future?
What if we are not able to sell him this Jan?
I mean apart from occupying the roster spot…how does it really affect us?

His agents are doing an awesome job
Linking him to many Brazilian clubs which can’t afford the money Chelsea is asking.

Eu sou do clube tantas vezes campeão!
Vim pra torcer, vim pra gritar
E por você a vida inteira vou cantar!"
If Shenhua needs someone else
(because they’ve fallen out with Drogba) then probably nothing will happen this weak. It would be unlikely to get someone to work during the New Year holidays! :D
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Speaking of QPR
there does not appear to be any TV this weekend for us.
It appears that way, yes. Outside of the fact that it's a 4am (PST) kickoff. Ugh.
On a somewhat related note, I was watching the Cardiff – Crystal Palace League Cup Semifinal Second Leg…and found the commentary team of Jonathan Pearce and Martin Keown (BBC) to be absolutely amazing.
Pearce, I thought, was very good at adding just the right amount of drama and flowery language without descending into Ray Hudson territory and Keown was solid if unspectacular (and at least nowhere near as insipid and annoying as Gary Neville, McManamanamamanamana, or Ray Wilkins, etc, etc, etc). More games on the BBC please!!
I guess you mean Jonathan Williams (for Palace)? It seems like he's been out since Nov. with a broken fibula.
Wilfred Zaha was a fun one to watch…but Cardiff should’ve easily walked with this one. I think they hit the post at least three times. Palace was useless.
On a personal note, I was very happy to see continued good showings from Filip Kiss, the 21-year-old promising talent form my hometown (on loan at Cardiff from his club in Slovakia). He (also) hit the post after coming on as a sub in the 2nd half and now hopefully he’ll get to test himself against either Man City or Liverpool at Wembley.
no go alex
Funny ain’t it,QPR (hoola hoops not super hoops as their fans call ‘em !)supposedly are oneof the riches clubs in the league’ cannot afford to pay out for a players, but seem to to just want to get people on loan and on the cheap, some teams ain’t ever gonna rchange or progress and still have that 3rd div.south attitude !
loans
Does anyone out there feel as I do ,about the loan system ? I always thought it was introduced to help the lower division teams (div 1,2 and even lower),and to help younger players with teams to get experience around league football and develop them into better players etc. whilst helping those teams out from financial difficulties etc. ?Now with all the loans going on in the higher divisions (Premier & Championship),it gives a false sense of a teams achievements the fact that a team can get promoted with few loan players, collect a vast amount of dosh, and following year they’re gone or stave off demotion or even loan out players to teams, knowing that they could hinder their rivals chances in games to come, lets get back to the basics and use this system as it was meant for !
