Chelsea FC loan roundup: 1/22/12
The winter break is over for most of our youngsters on loan so we'll actually have a pretty full report for you today. Matej Delac is the only player whose club is still on break, but they have a series of friendlies leading up to the resumption of their season in late February. Young Kenneth Omeruo has not yet officially joined ADO Den Haag as he finishes completing some paperwork. Word is that he will likely be granted his Dutch work permit on either Monday or Tuesday with an official announcement to follow. I guess you're all reading though to find out how the kids actually did, so here we go:
- Matej Delac - Delac actually got a start for Ceske Budejovice against Jablonic. He played 45 relatively uneventful minutes and didn't allow a goal. While I didn't see this one I've been told he was fairly solid in his debut performance. With any luck he'll earn himself some playing time in real games with his work in friendlies so we'll keep a close eye on what he does.
- Thibaut Courtois - Courtois kept another clean sheet on the weekend as Atletico blanked Real Sociedad 4-0. The big Belgian had a quiet day and only handled the ball a handful of times. It's nice to see he manages to keep his focus well when he's not constantly under pressure, but I'd prefer to see a few more tests to help him develop.
- Rhys Taylor - Taylor was pretty good in a 1-0 loss to Port Vale. The lone goal in that match was from the penalty spot so their really isn't too much blame to place at Taylor's feet. From all reports he was very effective at handling crosses and corners throughout the game.
That's it for this week, hopefully next week will mark the Vitesse debut for PvA. It's nice to have all of the youngsters back in action though so I have more than a few goalkeepers to watch.

Kalas seems to have impressed for the 1st half of the season at CB
…but there seems to be a growing feeling that he may be more suited to playing RB. Do you think the next time he is loaned out it could be as a right back, or do chelsea see him as predominantly centre half in the long term.? I suppose versatility is good.

Hes very fast
So maybe Right Back would be best.

I wouldn't go out of my way to change positions on a loan.
As long as he’s getting on the pitch he’s developing at the moment. Where he ends up in the long term will probably be largely dependent on how he looks at CB as he moves up the ladder. I wouldn’t move him based solely on speed if he ends up being a solid center back.

Why change him to RB? He is doing amazing as a CB.
Just because he is very fast?! That doesn’t make sense. Thiago Silva has alot of pace as well, you don’t see him playing RB.
If he can play right back, I think he should
The world is low on quality RBs in a way that’s just not happening with CB. If Kalas can be an elite right back, we’d be crazy not to make him one

That's a good point
but when playing the ‘high line’ as we did earlier in the season, we were crying out for a centre back with pace, and if he’s been so good at CB then why rock the boat by changing his position. Having said that, given the current state of a RB options I would have no issues with him being the future, especially with other centre halves like Bruma coming through

Luiz has a lot of speed
And that didn’t work.

McEachran won't be able to play against us on the 31st correct?

I was gonna ask the same thing
is that just part of the loan deal that normally happens? Something like Chelsea agreeing to send him to Swans on loan, with them agreeing he can’t play against us?
If any of that makes sense lol

UEFA and FA rules won't allow a player to play against his parent club

Correct..
…same in Spain, but what’s funny is that it’s built into their contracts — not sure about England. Though the Spanish press seem to think it’s another dirty trick the Mourinho pull. It’s really weird.

I really wish he could
I’m pretty sure I’d start yelling at our midfielders for tackling him though, so maybe it’s for the best.
Kalas, McEachran, and Courtois will make it to Chelsea team. Chelsea team in 5 years
Cesar—-Kalas——Chalobah—-Bertrand
Ramires———-Romue———-McEachran
Hazard——————Lukaku——————-Mata
Luiz should be in that team
If he utilizes his talents properly. Could easily see Chalobah as a Holding mid in the future.
by Dlewis on Jan 23, 2012 6:58 AM GMT via mobile up reply actions
Chalobah could just play anywhere
What a guy
HI I’M NEW HERE, SLIGHTLY OFF-TOPIC, BUT IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY CAHILL COULD BE PLAYED AT RIGHT BACK? GOD KNOWS BOSINGWA NEEDS A REST/HE’S BETTER ON THE BENCH
I doubt it
Although he has played at left back right back and as a DM in the past. I think Ivanovic will start at right back soon anyway.
Did you have some problems with your capslock key?
Or is there a reason I fail to grasp why you’re screaming?

He's on fire, clearly, but has massively distorted priorities. : )

He's just very excited
Like the real AVB. Now all we’re missing is an Ancelotti,a Grant,a Vialli, etc etc

Fairly certain they're referring to your COMMENTS rather than your username...
Unless you’re over 60 years old, in which case I commend you on being able to browse the web.
HSV had a really bad day against BVB
but Bruma really looked the best defender of HSV in that game, I agree

Err...why don't we try out
Piazon once on the left wing at least for 15-20 minutes??
I am dying to see him play for the senior team…
Maybe he won’t have much of an impact…but who knows??
If he steps up, it solves some problems of ours…

Poor idea IMO
He’s very good at the youth level and has held his own at the reserve level. I haven’t seen anything to convince me he’d be close to ready for the first team. 15-20 minutes isn’t going to give us any idea of his first team readiness, all it can do is convince the fans that he’s closer than he really is. Piazon is a nice prospect, he’s not close to ready for the Chelsea first team.

This is off topic but according to FM
Chelsea’s wonderkids are Sturridge, Kalas, Josh, Courtois, Delac, Kakuta, Chalobah, Ake and the player with the highest potential (future best player in the world) LUKAKU. Piazon and Romeu are suspiciously ignored…
