The one that best suits us

Disclaimer: My first fanpost where I've written so much (Plz excuse the grammar)

Alright lets begin....As most of us must be aware, this weekend we have some pretty exciting EPL matches lined up (and we play Norwich, which I don’t count in this list :p)

On 22nd Jan, Arsenal host Manchester united while Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur, I believe our season depends a lot on these two fixtures and could possibly decide where we finish at the end of this season.

Assuming that we win against Norwich(yeah I’m that brave), there are nine different possible outcomes (read scenarios) that we can come across from these two fixtures. Each scenario may/may not affect the league standings.

************************************************

Scenario 1 – Man City Win + Arsenal Win

Scenario 2 – Man City Win + Man U Win

Scenario 3 – Man City Win + Arsenal Man U Draw

Scenario 4 – Tottenham Win + Arsenal Win

Scenario 5 – Tottenham Win + Man U Win

Scenario 6 – Tottenham Win + Arsenal Man U Draw

Scenario 7 – Man City Tottenham Draw + Arsenal Win

Scenario 8 – Man City Tottenham Draw + Man U Win

Scenario 9 – Man City Tottenham Draw + Arsenal Man U Draw

************************************************

I had been doing this guessing game for quite some time now, which is finding the best possible outcome for our beloved Chelsea FC from both this matches; simply put, what should we hope for. Hence this poll.

So my fellow blue mates, what would you prefer on this weekend. You have nine options to choose from.

To facilitate your decision making, I have provided League standings corresponding to all eight scenarios (No position has been assigned to Arsenal, as it will depend on Newcastle and Liverpool matches, which I preferred to not consider for my calculations. Had I considered their matches too, then the number of tables would have been exactly 81…point proven ???)

So lets begin….

PS: I have not included goal difference, as I don’t see GD playing any significant role in top 4 league standings, at least till this weekend.

I don't feel threatened by Arsenal (Sorry Sabrina!)

And I think United are definitely in reach. Plus I can’t stomach the though of them winning another title. So City + Arsenal win for me.

Arsenal win and City win

Win win for me. If it’s good with Chelsea too… whatever.

Scenario 10

Massive punch ups in both games and all teams docked points….. one can dream

9 would be ideal for me, but any of...

1,2,3,7, and 8 would also be fine for me.

Most of all, I want Tottenham not to win, and if all four can drop points, it’ll be best for us. If City wins, though, I’d rather United do too, since I don’t want City to win the title, but I can take any result but a Spurs win in either match.

Didn't vote in the poll

I really don’t know what I want at this point. As long as we win tomorrow we’re in a better situation come Monday than we are today. More than anything this weekend I want to see Liverpool and Newcastle drop points and Chelsea win.

I ended up going with #2

After the unimpressive draw I just want to open that gap up

7 would be nice

although im not fussed as long as tottenham don’t win, and we see two good games of football, couldnt bear two boring games especially if they don’t go Chelsea’s way (as much as they can)

I was thinking about this a lot the last couple of days

and I am torn. If I think short term, I want ManU and Spurs to drop points. I feel like ManCity are pretty out of reach, but we might be able to squeeze our way past the two ahead of us.

However, if I look at the long term picture and coming games for the sides… I am cautious about Swansea, given their ability to pass so well, their decent form, and the recent win against Arsenal. Then we have ManU… the other teams all have some teams they could likely beat in their match next weekend and after that (aside from Chelsea v. ManU), so I don’t know that I want Arsenal to get the points tomorrow if it means they could pass us again if we by chance lost, while they’ve a couple easier games in hand.

Gah… it’s hurting my brain to keep thinking about this too much.

Thats exactly what I think

I believe if we can put pressure on ManU and Tottenham then we would not have to worry abt finishing 4th, as we would be vying for 2nd/3rd position and believe me that will be awesome :)

And yeah regarding your disappointment at not posting this stuff…I’m sure there are enough matches still left and we will have a bunch of crunch matches coming up..so better luck next time :)

I want Arsenal and City win

Spurs are the team I want to drop points and City to earn points to make sure they finish above Manure. I just cant stand Manure winning so I want them to lose to Arsenal and I am really not scared of Arsenal.

by Archit Arya on Jan 21, 2012 8:44 AM GMT reply actions

I want Citeh and Manure win

Personally I’ve myself given up on the title and I could take it with Manure finishing above us. Hell, they did this quite often in the last 10 years, didn’t they? *gg But what I couldn’t take is Spuds finishing above us. I’d be upset if that happens. And Arsenal … as long as they lose points it will make it harder for them to overtake us so I’d take that, too. But a draw would do the deed as well, I guess

Isn't that like ... cheating?

I know what you mean..

Neways…The poll is meaningless now as my basic assumption (Our Win today) is not met :(

Just kiddin'

because it seems some people have voted with conviction we’d win today – and it has the odd feeling you were updating just to hint subtly that well … our current result may influence the vote :D

Oh yeah

Even I would be content with 3 :)
