Poll and Discussion: Which game are you most looking forward to this week?
With yet another El Clasico set to kick off tomorrow the press is in a frenzy about "the most illustrious game in football". Without a doubt Real Madrid and Barcelona is an intriguing matchup for any spectator, but the Premier League offers two exceptional matchups of their own this weekend in what are arguably more meaningful contests. The Premier League matchups between United and Arsenal as well as Tottenham and Manchester City tend to occur far less often than the Spanish rivals meeting and are likely to have a major impact on not only the title race but the Champions League places as well.
Luckily for the neutral (or slightly biased) fan none of these matchups offers a conflict with the others, so I'd guess the majority of us will be watching all three as they happen. Reading some of the previews got me thinking about a hypothetical though. What would I watch if all three happened to be on at the same time? I know we now have DVR and places that will replay the games, but watching the event live is always a lot more fun. So I'm going to throw a hypothetical out there in a poll...if you could only watch one of the three tasty matchups this weekend which one would it be?

City Spurs for me.
I hope City win. Have nothing invested in Real Madrid – Barcelona. But if arsenal and united draw and City beat Tottenham, I’ll be happy.
Ok Arsenal win and City win this weekend
Hopefully bolton can do some damage to a poor Liverpool side
Having like 17 Clasicos each season kinda takes the shine off of it, no?
But it’s going to be a fun weekend in the Prem.
You should change it to
Stoke/Barcelona

Where's the excitement in that
Messi clearly couldn't handle a rainy Wednesday night at the Brittania

Probably go with El Clásico
The question is, who to root for in the prem matches.
Chelsea, Arsenal, and spurs wins all kinda bring the current top 5 a bit closer to each other.
At this point settling for 2nd or 3rd would be great for us considering what’s happened.
But of course we all want Chelsea to win the league, so what would be the best outcome of each match for that to happen?

Is there going to be an English feed for El Clasico?
Just looked on Espn3.com and it seemed that the only feed was in Spanish…
I'm sure first row will have one
Might not be the best feed though
by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 17, 2012 11:17 PM GMT up reply actions
It's airing on GOLTV in the US at least
Usually first row has a decent stream if the game is airing on a US channel.
Last time Sky had extra programme space
for that. OK, you had to endure Rafa Benitez if that was a problem for you :P

Wow really really tough decision...
I didn’t realize how many great games there are this week. Norwich v Chelsea ought to be intense.

Really, City - Spurs is number one for me, but...
…Arsenal – United is going to be live on FOX in the U.S. which I find pretty exciting. I never expected they’d show a game live, at least not this season. I figured they’d just keep replaying them at more “American” times. Maybe it’s a change for the better and they’ll start showing other things, like F1, live on FOX.

Third place, among non-Chelsea games, has to be Sunderland - Swansea.
I imagine Josh will play some part in it, and I think we’ll all try to catch the game to see how he gets on.

Bruma faces off against Dortmund as well
Should be a fun one

With F1 moving to Sky (*spit*), they better keep it on SPEED
Varsha, Matchett, and Hobbs are still better than whatever schmoes FOX would plop in there to talk at me.
They've learned their lesson, and generally use the SPEED team.
I still wish someone would buy the U.S. rights off FOX, and get the BBC team.

The first live game that was slated to be shown on FOX this year was Super Bowl Sunday's Chelsea - Manchester United tilt
But the ratings of the taped games have been so surprisingly good, FOX decided to add a couple more to the slate – the first of which is Arensal – Manchester United.
City-Spurs is going to be absolutely fantastic to watch, as well as being very meaningful.
They might be the two most exciting sides in the league, and City’s defense is much more fragile without Kompany.
Barca-Real is almost too big of a game for the action itself to be thrilling.
It's one of those games where I'm hoping for a draw.

City win would help us out in the short term.
And i wouldn’t mind an Arsenal win on the weekend. First overtake Spurs. Then United. Then City.
It has to be the Classico
No other game provides such action and drama offcourse…the competition is intense…Messsi vs. Ronaldo…and yeah Bushqets vs. Di Maria (acting skills)
Cheers,

spuds-citeh
dont care much about the classico i just had too much of them these past years w all know how it’s goin to end Real will do all the hard work and somehow Messi will score and Barcelona wins yawwwn
Scared? No. Concerned? Maybe a little bit.
But…in the meantime, a certain dark part of me would find it very, very intriguing and interesting if we finished lower than 4th for the first time in a decade…
I'm scared we don't make top 3. I think we'll definitely finish in the top 4
but top 4 is rubbish. Loads of extra games and we don’t need that. 3rd spot a minimum.
Well Arsenal know all about 4th place.
I think we need to be aiming at third in the very least.
I want Manure to be crushed
I hate them to infinity and I kinda like Arsenal , So a repeat of 8-2 in favour of Arsenal would be awesome. I am quite sure Chelsea will finish in top4 coz Arsenal are to inconsistent andLiverpool arent a threat anymore.
Eh..
We are just as inconsistent as Arsenal. I don’t think we are any better than Liverpool or Arsenal in our current state. This is the worst Chelsea side I’ve seen in the past 10 years.
Dont compare us to Livepool
We are way better then them, their third best attacker(Downing) has no goals and assist this season and Arsenal have just lost to Fulham and Swansea so I think we are better then both of them

Didn't Downing just score a goal against Oldham in the FA Cup?
Or you mean league goal then yes
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I am talking in the PL
He scored a goal against oldham in the 5-1 game, even Carroll scored.

I disagree
Liverpool is much better organized and is very good defensively. And that’s all thanks to Steve Clarke. We need an assistent manager like him. He is so much better than Di Matteo, tactically and defensively. He was one of the reasons we had the best defense in the league under Mourinho.
Our midfield looks disjointed and lacks cohesion. I think Villas boas gives our team way too much freedom. I don’t see any structure or thought in our play. It is by far the worst Chelsea side I’ve ever seen.
Does your argument imply
our midfield looks so disjointed because AVB gives them too much freedom (therefore, the disjointedness would be something he added) or because it was disjointed before (especially after Deco’s and Ballack’s departures) and he didn’t fix it because he allows too much freedom in it?
On Steve Clarke – with that I fully agree; his sheer brilliance was imho not so much witnessed under Mourinho but more so under Avram Grant, and how Steve Clarke could pull together a team reaching the finals of the CL although Avram Grant proved later himself at Pompey and West Ham that he was seemingly somewhat clueless. It’s an utter shame to see a Chelsea legend like him at Pool. At Pool (!!!)
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Liverpool have an excellent defense at the moment...
But our defense isn’t terrible. Of the 25 goals we’ve conceded 11 of them came in three matches. Which means in the other 18 games we conceded 14 goals. I think our team hasn’t been performing well enough consistently for about a year now. Seeing as AVB and Di Matteo haven’t been here for 6 months yet so I can’t blame them for the problem. I could understand you not liking that they haven’t fixed it yet but they are trying to change the way we defend and attack and our core footballing philosophy all at the same time. It’s going to take a while and probably a few new players to fix it.
I think what he’s doing is positive because he’s allowing the players to make decisions based on what’s happening in a game rather than doing what he’s been told based on what he thinks will happen.
I don't think our defence is so terrible at all
despite conceding much. To me it’s not so much that we don’t concede so much but the way how we concede. We concede way too easily, and I agree partly due to our midfield; it seems somewhat easy (even if we don’t concede because of ineptitude of opposition strikers) to pass through our midfield as if it were nonexistent. Our defense then has to clean up the mess, but the error isn’t solely with them. And sometimes it seems we need tome to adjust between attack and defense; like our midfield needs a mode to switch on and off.
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Our midfield was allready disjointed before he came.
AVB’s playstyle just isn’t helping us, that’s what I meant. We don’t have the right players in midfield to play in AVB’s very fluid system. I think he is giving playiers way too much freedom, including defenders like David Luiz. Have you guys seen David Luiz play for Brazil? He always plays there with alot of discipline and chooses his moments to go forward much more wisely. He is never rash in his tackles and his positioning is alot better. I think that’s because Menezes instructs his defenders alot. He always wants his defenders to be disciplined and play their roles accordingly. AVB loves to give his players alot of freedom, this is something he always talks about. Freeing the players of mental blocks.
@Famouscfc
Goals conceded doesn’t tell everything. We always look like conceding. I have never watched a game this season where I was feeling comfortable about our defense, well maybe against Valencia. I REALLY loved that game against Valencia. I wish we could always defend like that. But ofcourse with more attacking intent..
OK then I understood you correctly
that the midfield has broken apart last season, and AVB didn’t fix it. I’d also agree our midfield looked worse than any midfield we had for a long time; however I’m not sure with the current personnel we have he could fix much about it. Last season our midfield broke apart, but not so much down to Carlo’s ineptitude (in his first season our midfield did look nothing like we looked now, or last season) but because some key players left and never got properly replaced. Of course his general approach isn’t helping much either
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
You guys can see all three matches.
18 Jan 21:00 GMT Real M. v Barca
22 Jan 13:30 GMT Man City v Tottenham
22 Jan 16:00 GMT Arsenal v Man Utd
Speaking of OT II
More off topic:
Carlo Ancelotti is trolling
Look at Torres and his crisis. If you decide you are going to invest in him, you have to sell Drogba.
Didier is like Pippo Inzaghi at Milan. He tends to swallow up all his competitors. It is not because they are evil, they are just like that.
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I've never thought about this
but yes you’re right – you could interpret it that way, too :D
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Hm let's see ...
Last time I watched Real/Barca it didn’t lift me so much … maybe because Barca won again?
City and Spuds – City dropping points would piss me more than Spuds dropping points so yeah – between the choices of plague or cholera it’s obviously Ebola for me.
Arsenal and Manure – meh.
Conclusion: Aside Chelsea games I stick with Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim … the only adverse reaction I’d ever encounter when watching Dortmund was always “Damn wish you’d play for Chelsea why you no sell … :P”
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
i voted arsenal vs Man U
I love nothing more than seeing Man Utd lose, so the chance of that happening excites me

Haha
Nah I can’t see us losing to Norwich AND Arsenal beating United in the same weekend.
I’d put money on us winning. I might actually.
I think you'll most likely win
but not long ago you lost to Villa and United to Blackburn (though that was without Rooney) anything can happen…

Agreed.
But I feel confident about the game.
OH!
