Chelsea Will Return To The USA This Summer
Buried in a Boston-centric article about a potential friendly between AS Roma and mid-table Premier League side Liverpool is the following gem:
"[Roma vs. Liverpool in Boston] would be part of a tournament involving Chelsea FC and, possibly, Celtic FC. Matches will also be held in Chicago and New York."
If you're a Blues fan on the east coast of the USA, it sounds like you could be in luck this summer.

this is good news
I would be willing to make the four hour hike out to Chicago to see CFC since going to London isn’t in my immediate future.
Same here
NY and Beantown are both relatively close, although it sounds like Beantown won’t be the Chelsea site. I can’t stand watching games at Fenway anyway though, so NY would be ideal.

You mean Foxboro?
I heard NYC is where the CHelsea one will be, based on some Twitter rumors (a few days back). I didn’t think much of it since it was just Twitter, other than that if it came out to be true, I’d probably have to make a trip down there.
Argentina and Brazil playing in Jersey, too, for any folks interested in viewing some of your favorite Brazilians.
Also...
makes sense Liverpool would be here in Boston, with their ownership. Bah! Wouldn’t mind if the final of whatever this tournament is wanted to be here, and wanted to include Chelsea. That would be convenient, provided I could get an actual seat closer than the one I had for the Spain v. US game.
I doubt it would be there if they even do a final format
Fenway is the tiniest of the venues mentioned. I’d guess they’d aim for the new stadium in NY for any sort of Chelsea LoLverpool matchup.

Fenway
It’s sounds as if FSG are pushing LoLverpool to pay in their house.
by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 17, 2012 2:28 AM GMT up reply actions
Well,
that is just stupid. I know they do it for hockey, but Fenway is not close to the right atmosphere for a football match.
Sure, it’s closer to me, but blah. Now, Foxboro ain’t perfect- they have to lay grass over the field since we use the fake stuff, but at least you could put some fans in there.
On the other hand, I imagine it is suitable for the following Liverpool have here. Everyone is a damned bandwagon ManU fan if they even like the sport.
The match is said to be Liverpool - Roma.
Both clubs are owned by owners of the Red Sox.

Roma too?
I had no idea about that. I could do with some Bojan :) Except he is soooo young :(
Seriously though… Fenway is small for baseball games. I am trying to figure out the dimensions the field would be. I mean, it’s been a few years since I’ve gone to a Sox game, and I suppose one might fit, but it would be quite the squeeze.
It's in the article.

Damnit
I didnt even see the link. I am a fucktard.
Oh look
I can Google:
I’d want nothing to do with that layout! Also, not sure what happened for that match, but I’d think the field going the other way, if it would fit, would be better. The Green Monster shouldn’t take up the sideline.
Ugh

sometimes I copy the article rather than the image.
I use it sometimes
I swear!
An edit button would be an even better friend for impulsive and reckless folks like myself :)
A squeeze is BEST
Wouldn’t we rather atmosphere like the old Baseball Ground in Derby over sodding Pride Park? Give me terraces and seats right on top of the opitch as it makes 40,000 seem like 200,000. It’s why WHL has the best(I hate to say it but it’s true)atmos in the prem by a distance over the even smaller Brittania. Fenway would be the best if it meant stands up to the sides of the pitch rather than the usual awfully sad, poorly designed US Football stadia we have to play in in the land of the minority sport. I hate it when we go to the US.

Give me the Westfalonstadion!
Dortmund home matches are incredible. Love the German atmosphere
by Graham MacAree on Jan 17, 2012 6:27 AM GMT up reply actions
Fenway is a different kind of squeeze
it’s just a small stadium with a lopsided field, and if last year’s expedition match is anything to go by, there wont be much in the way of sideline seating. I don’t mind a small football stadium, but a football pitch? Fenway is just not built for that type of event. There may be some college football/soccer stadiums that are better, if Gillette is too big. WHL at least can fit a football field in it.
Great news to find out one week before I move from the east coast to west coast...
I did, however, catch Chelsea vs Inter in Los Angeles a couple years ago on their last USA tour. Quite possibly the happiest day of life.
Ah, West Coast getting dicked, as usual
Guess I’ll have to make do with my one Stamford Bridge visit…
Didn't they do Seattle, LA, and Dallas last time?

I DEMAND A WEST COAST TRIP EVERY SUMMER!!
But I think you’re right. It’s just my minority complex speaking, beaten down by the mass US sports media.
Seen them twice in Seattle (Celtic; Sounders) and once in Palo Alto (América).
Let the midwest get them once in a while!

God, I hope Chelsea have a game in Chicago.
I’m like 3 hours away, so it would be ideal for me.

Farm country…

Not many farms in Green Bay.
There are a lot around us, but not in the city.

I live about 10 minutes from Soldier Field
Pretty excited, to put it mildly.
I heard parking in Chicago is a nightmare.
Taking a train seems the best option since I’m coming from MI.
It is, but it's not that bad.

Ha
I want to post a picture of the McPoyle boys, but I am too lazy.
Philly / New York
The rumor that has been circulating for the last couple of months have Chelsea setting up there training grounds in Philly at the NovaCare Complex. Im not sure if they will play a game in Philly, but it make for easy traveling on the east coast. Juve did the same thing last year. They trained in Philly and traveled all around the east coast. The New York Blues heard about this a couple of months ago.
Really.. They wouldnt just train in Jersey or further inland in NY?
Well, I suppose it isn’t burtal travelling, but I’d think they’d go a little closer to the matches. Well, unless Philly will host one.
I still don’t care much for this baseball field thing. Probably because I never wanted to have to visit Yankee Stadium, if that’s where Chelsea will play.
But talk about a boring drive...
Oh, look, ANOTHER corn field! No…wait…that one’s SOY! WOOOOOHOOOO!!!
I laughed at soy
because its true.
This seems to be my favorite thread tonight :)
made the trip many times
and it has sucked every time…would be worth it to see the Blues play though

I'll take my six hours from Wisconsin to Chicago over that
Once I’m two hours into Iowa/Illinois it all starts falling apart for me.
Where in Wisconsin is six hours?
Way up in the Northwest, I guess.

Almost on the border with Minnesota by Minneapolis.
So I-94 to….more I-94 forever and ever and it’s routing through Milwaukee so…all around awfulness.
The smugness of Vikings fans today has been just unbearable too. If I hear “Discount Double Choke” one more time…
Where, specifically in that area.
I vaguely remember you telling me, but it could have been someone else.

Yep!
It’s about a 45 minute drive to most things I could want to do. And there’s far too many fat women here. But at least…I only need to finish my degree before I move to Oregon?
Wisconsin is a weird state.
The Eastern and Southern halves are pretty okay, but everything else is pretty devoid of anything interesting.

Yep. If I lived any farther North or East
While not being in the Green Bay/Milwaukee area I’d hate it. As where I live is basically a suburb of Minneapolis, it’s ok.
Northern Wisconsin though…bad. Badbadbadbad.
It's not bad if you live in 1873..!

Orlando
Pit em up against Orlando City. We beat Newcastle last summer and won the Championship our inaugural season
If it's in New York
I’m going for sure, worth the trek from Maryland.

It is always interesting (to me) to see where fellow Chelsea fans hail from.
Would a FanPost to get a feel for where common WAGNH users live be creepy? This is literally the only blog I follow and post on, but I’ve always been curious as to the whereabouts of fellow posters.

VT is pretty
but not easy to commute through, in terms of public trans. :( Though I got to reacquaint myself with it on a trip to Montreal. Was the first day of May and there was still snow, and unfortunately tons of flooding. Have they recovered from that yet? Here in MA we still have people fighting with FEMA and stuff over flooding issues.
I bet they get kind of touchy if you don't stop at the border

I'd drive to anywhere of Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, Washington DC, etc etc
Although obviously NYC would be the most ideal for me. Anything within ~18 hours of here is worth the drive though.
Anyone know if it’s going to be a multi-game tournament, like the tour a few summers ago with Club America and the Milans? Or is it a one-off deal?
I have family/friends in New York and Chicago.
This would be an excellent excuse to go visit them this summer…
"I want to be a cowboy. I don't want to be a panda. Pandas are boring, stupid and boring. Bad panda!"
I live 30 minutes out of boston
Figures its going to be liverpool coming though and not Chels. Oh well, a NY/Chi town trip is in my future…
