Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Stevan Jovetic Bid Rejected
Rumours are flying around the internet that Chelsea have had a bid rejected by Serie A side Fiorentina for the services of Stevan Jovetic. I'm not really sure just how accurate they are, but it's worth talking about just because it's such a good idea and there's been rumoured interest from the club for quite some time.
Jovetic, for those not in the know, is a Montenegrin forward (who can play left wing) who was widely regarded as one of the top young talents around before being badly injured at the beginning of last season. He didn't return until August, and since then he's been on absolute fire, scoring nine goals for a bad team. Steve will have a longer profile a little later on, so stay tuned for that.
Overall, Jovetic seems like a pretty good pickup - he'd allow the Blues to push Juan Mata inside to #10 where he probably belongs, he's not cup-tied at all and Chelsea wouldn't have to break the bank for him. The bid Fiorentina reportedly turned down was £14M, which is what Chelsea were trying to pay for Universidad de Chile's Eduardo Vargas, a similarly talented (but less proven) young left winger, but the reports have the Italians willing to sell at a price of £20M.
With Jovetic under contract until 2016, Fiorentina are hardly going to be forced into anything they don't want to do, which means that Chelsea would probably have to come up to £18 or £19M with add-ons to get anything done. But, this is a plausible enough rumour that would add some real flexibility to the attack, so if it's legitimate... well, let's say my interest is piqued.

YES PLEASE
LOVE Jovetic. Obviously I’d prefer Hazard but I don’t think a move for Jovetic would preclude us getting Eden as well-this front four:
Jovetic———————
Hazard—-Mata——Sturridge
would be ridiculously sexy.
If we were to get Jovetic
I think I’d be rather go for Götze than Hazard.
Romeu—-Ramires——-
Götze——Mata———Jovetic
-—————Torres———————
Beastly :p
Could we potentially see
Torres——-
Jovetic—-Mata—Sturridge
-—Romeu—Ramires
against Man United? That would be the greatest day.
Yes yes yes
I saw the boy do a number on a good Liverpool side a few years ago and have hoped for his arrival ever since.

Blown ACL
I’m not familiar with the rest of his injury history, but that doesn’t mean there is no more injury history

Shouldn't be.
Essien’s problem is structural. It could be the case, but I’m sure we’d find it in the medical, given our history with Essien.

They can also not be
It’s an obvious red flag though

Was it a sprain or a tear?
Sometimes a tear, while putting you out of commission longer, is better, since you essentially get a whole new ligament grafted on.
I don’t think we need him now, but if we get him then great:)
Cech
Ivanovic—-Cahill—-Terry—-Cole
Ramires——-Romeu——Essien
Jovetic———-Sturridge———Mata
Play Mata in the middle
And Jovetic on the left with Danny on the right behind Torres. Would be my preference
ooooh yes
Cheap extremely talented and most important NOT cup Tied i’m sure we can sort something out with Fiorentina 20m should do it a firm offer and he’s ours
maybe less than 20
im thinking 17 may be the magic number, maybe 18… i dunno

Here's the lowdown on the injury that kept him out last season:
“ACF Fiorentina communicates that Stevan Jovetic has suffered a lesion to his cruciate ligament in his right knee.”
“Surgery for the player is neccessary and that will be planned over the next few days. The times for his complete return are estimated between six and seven months.”
Make of that what you will. Where’s an orthopedist when you need one.

A cruciate lesion, huh?
Man I’d love to see the surgery that did on that

Unless of course that's just a mistranslation of a standard tear

Apparently "lesion" is a much broader term than I ever realized
a.k.a. “injury”
Damn you, British English: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/kneeinjuriescruciate.htm
Hah
It’s amazing that I didn’t know that before, considering I did a masters degree on ligament damage in England.

Of course
I can do biomechanics in my right elbow

When you say he can play left wing?
Does he play as a left winger or is he like Mata and tend to cut into the middle? If the point of getting a left sided winger is to move Mata into the central role where he is more effective, I think it would make little sense for the left sided replacement to be another player who likes to float inside and would prefer to centrally, then you would have nobody on the left and two centrally. Apart from that I hope Chelsea can get him, still young and I remember sky sports tipping him as the player of his generation about 3 or 4 years back. Just out of interest does Hazard play left or right side?
