Chelsea FC Transfer News: Chelsea Confirm Gary Cahill Passes Medical

Chelsea's newest signing does a little dance.

Bolton and England defender Gary Cahill was at Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea beat Sunderland 1-0 on Saturday, and after the match manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that the rumours were correct and that Cahill would be joining the club next week.

Well I think Gary passed his medical, and should be ours soon. [Will he join us next week?] Yeah.

-Source: BBC.

So it sounds like we're just waiting for Cahill to put pen to paper and we'll see him announced within the next few days. Cahill does make the team better - he's very strong in the air and provides much needed depth at centre back, so despite the fact that his rumoured £80,000/week wages* is too high, having him around is probably a good thing. Now that the transfer is more or less done it's time to simply hope he's a far better player than he's shown recently and hope that he can have a long and fruitful career with us. I'm looking forward to this transfer saga being done.

*I'd guess that we can probably trust that Mirror report, since they got the fact that he was signing correct.

Krasic has gone quiet. No idea who his second target is, if there even is one……

by MischievousNinja87 on Jan 14, 2012 8:29 PM GMT reply actions

Agreed

Krasic is terrible. A player that suffers from the Walcott syndrome: Great pace, mediocre technique, no awareness. Only plays well when there is alot of space to exploit. He will never fit into our system.

I’m so incredibly happy that we are not signing him, even if it’s on loan.

It's a lovely old saying

and not necessarily a comparison – but read into it what you want :D

lol I like Theo a lot but he's soo frustrating at times

today he was hit or miss (as usual) he scored a goal so I’m happy.

I'm hoping that he'll be able to focus better on what he has to do

When he’s not constantly in a state of panic about what kind of a situation Zat Knight is going to leave him to sort out.

Does anyone know whether we are well placed in the financial fair play regulation system? i really think we should offload players first.

by winningisourgame on Jan 14, 2012 9:42 PM GMT reply actions

In relatively good shape

We just have to avoid having 8-9 players on 100+k per week going forward and we should be all right

we're allowed to post losses for the first few years, and a lot of our wages don't count for FFP purposes yet.

I’d love to see us go out and make another big signing. Not making the CL would be disastrous for FFP.

After the "Parade" today in Lampard's goal

it’s more or less a matter of time till this will be confirmed officially. Fine, fine, hope he proves everyone who didn’t want this to happen first time we heard of it all how damn wrong we were

Uh just somewhat immediately after Lampard scored,

the camera panned on Cahill instead of following the goal celebration

i've been reading

a lot about this Hazard thing. I think its highly unlikely, but never count out Roman. If we are willing to put 40m on the table for Modric, im sure 35-40m for Hazard won’t be out of the question.

by CardinaLnGold on Jan 15, 2012 12:00 AM GMT reply actions

How reliable is the info we really tabled 40m for Modric?

I read it in the Daily Mail first and they are not exactly the most reliable source

Speaking of reliable sources...

bleacher report says Cahill’s tackles per game are pretty bad….infact even worse than some of the midfielders like Nani..!!

by winningisourgame on Jan 15, 2012 11:41 AM GMT up reply actions

yeah i saw that

apparently cahill has gotten the exact same number of tackles this season as mata has

Huh

OK we’ll see how this gets underway once he dons the blue jersey

reverting to the hi line?

yeah, hope he puts in some winning tackles! And on a positive note, he has got MOST number of offside decisions in favor of him in the league..OH WAIT! Does that mean he wil play as the lone centre bak? I gues both DL and JT would be benched. :P

by winningisourgame on Jan 15, 2012 4:24 PM GMT via mobile up reply actions

I wonder if that

offside thing is something that could change overnight once he puts on the blue jersey (aka the Torres-effect) or if that is due to his incredible skills. We’ll see, I like to get surprises!

Also, I think 25 is unofficially off-limits.

That is, it’s not officially retired, but it’s not likely to be given.

Yeah, it's not very common to see numbers retired

Especially because some numbers are more associated with positions than particular players.

But when you’ve got someone that has a number as uncommon as 25 then it’s pretty easy to just not give it to anybody else. I’d expect the same to be the case for 26 after Terry retires. And I doubt we’ll see anyone taking Anelka’s number for a while, but that’ll be for a different reason.

Cries out

it’s frustrating
