A Comparison Game: Chelsea Forwards
So I was trying to avoid writing a preview today (this is what I spend most preview-writing days doing) when I was struck with a question. Just how did Chelsea's strikers do in 2011? There's been some heavy criticism handed out to Fernando Torres and Salomon Kalou, while Daniel Sturridge has been setting the world on fire, but raw goal and assist tallies are less interesting to me than whether or not a player has made the most of their time available. So, given this list of players...
Nicolas Anelka
Didier Drogba
Salomon Kalou
Florent Malouda
Juan Mata
Daniel Sturridge
Fernando Torres
*La Liga stats treated as equivalent to Premier League.
... can you match them up to their minutes played per goals and assists last year? Here are the raw statistics.
A: 330 min/goal, 330 min/assist.
B: 269, 233.
C: 298, 522.
D: 135, 608.
E: 485, 324.
F: 126, 842.
G: 261, 318.
Get guessing! I'll give out the answers on Monday.

Hmm
Guessing E is Torres and D and F is Sturridge or Kalou, but not sure which is which. I’ll give B to Mata. Too lazy to do the rest.
And a goal machine at that
impressive to have those numbers match up at that rate as a striker, if that is him.
Did he really score that many in calendar year 2011?
I thought he trailed off from a good first half of last season.

No idea
I just think it is impressive to have the same number of minutes on assist than goal. The number of minutes may not be the best, so that may even things out over the calendar year. But then, maybe you give me something to thing about…
Maybe A is Torres and E is Drogba. I forget that Torres’s first few games and 4 goals count in this.
I really suspect Torres isn't E.
It’s just too obvious. I should probably know which he is, but I don’t think Graham would have bothered if it was obvious. I suspect he might be A, since he has close to equal goals and assists. Another thing, haven’t a lot of Nando’s game been sub appearances?

It's true
of his Chelsea games… you may well be right there. I have trouble thinking in terms of calendar year… dunno why.
Did Anelka really play that much? And without goals?
I do recall hearing he had a big goal-less streak too, but I guess I didn’t realize how many minutes he may have had. More so in the first half of the year, I guess.
I'd also guessed E is either Anelka or Torres
And Anelka didn’t have that many goals in 2011 but I was just wondering myself how many minutes Anelka played in total

A. Drogba
B. Mata
C. Malouda

I'm not even going to guess, because...
A) It would truly be a complete guess.
2) I’m operating under the assumption that the results are at least somewhat counter-intuitive, since not being so would not make this worth posting.
D) I will be embarrassingly wrong.

I agree with this answer
If you are right, do I get part of the prize too?
I know I'm completely wrong because
I’m not entirely sure if it’s the year 2011 or the season 2010/2011 but since Mata is included in this list it would make sense it’s the year 2011 and not the season 2010/2011 because he didn’t play a minute of that season for us … so …
A – Anelka
B – Mata
C – Malouda
D – Kalou
E – Torres
F – Sturridge
G – Drogba
And since I was too lazy to look after real stats and just know some figures about Drogba, Malouda and Torres from 2010/2011 (due to some discussions of Drogba/Torres in the past) and I’m completely oblivious about the rest I couldn’t have gotten it more wrong I believe :)
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
It's year 2011.

D: Nicolas Anelka
E: Fernando Torres
F: Daniel Sturridge
G: Florent Malouda
Hey
Did we ever get the answers on this?
So many things to report on by Monday, it may well have gotten lost in the shuffle… I can’t keep track of today’s posts, much less those from days prior!
