Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: QPR's Pursuit Of Alex Intensifying

Photo

Queens Park Rangers are upping their pursuit of Chelsea's lesser Brazilian centre half after having their first bid rejected by Michael Emenalo and company. According to the Guardian, QPR, now helmed by Mark Hughes, are willing to go up to - wait for it - £0.0035B for Alex's signature. Even reporting that sum of money in quasi-fair units, it's still an awfully low bid for a reasonable-quality Premier League defender, and with Chelsea needing to absorb £30M (£7M transfer fee, £80,000 pounds per week over 5.5 years) worth of Gary Cahill fees and contracts, you'd have to imagine that the Blues can do better.

If this was a foreign club, I'd be a little more inclined to give a discount, but Alex should be worth somewhere close to Cahill's valuation and Chelsea should not be selling him to a fellow Premier League club for a cut-price rate. It's a pretty insulting offer, and hopefully it will be met with the same reaction as QPR's opening bid - contempt. Let's hope that interest from Juventus was legitimate, because a minor bidding war would be just what the doctor ordered as far as we're concerned.

And because I like polls and we haven't had one recently...

Noooo

no, no and no. No to anyone to QPR. My my, it happens just sometimes I can’t decide if I hated Pool or QPR more … and with QPR it’s especially the fans I can’t stand. They are not exactly rivals to us (:P) so naturally if it were not QPR but another team in a similar league position that would be OK, but selling to QPR – and with the sour taste Alex might even perform well for them – I sincerely hope it’s not happening

Corinthians is a beast of seven heads

They’d TRY to bring Tevez with a huge help from sponsors, which were willing to bring him back to Brazil due to his profitability. Fortunately, it was apparently only a play by Tevez’ agent to increase his value and the fight for him in the transfer market.

Yes

Most signs in the Brazilian market at the moment are coming for free or with bid of under £2 mi. I heard some teams were even trying to parcel bids of £1 mi because they don’t have any money.

Unfortunately I don’t think the Fanpost space should be used for that, but I will try to resume the financial state of Brazilian clubs at the moment: money comes in from sponsorship, players sold and TV money. That money goes mostly to pay debts. The rest that’s left is used to pay wages. And then you have the money for transfers. Only a few teams like Corinthians and Fluminense who have backing from a sugar daddy like Man City and Chelsea have a few extra bucks to expend.

True

But I heard Fluminense is willing to pay the buyout clause for Wallace at least. Pernão is already at another club, and the other guy whose name I don’t recall is at Copa São Paulo at the moment with Fluminense.

Internacional showed interest in signing Alex, and they have a pretty good youngster class like Fluminense. Maybe…

his age could be a problem but i wouldn’t accept less than 5 mil

as for QPR does Fernandes really expect to be challenging for europe over the next couple of years because with that squad he better have a big checkbook and probably should have hired a manager who wasn’t awful at signing players at the last rich club he was at

We get 0m if he rots in Siberia

3.5m, or 1/2 of Cahill seems low, but I’d take it. And it gets Alex’s own contract (50k+) off the books, too.

And it’s not like he’ll suddenly vault QPR into a challenger, so I don’t think there’s that much harm in selling him within the Prem.

I say no.

The transfer window is still young, and although the media would frame us as suddenly turning cheap, Id rather we wait a bit and see what else surfaces.

The Fail is now saying Hazard would be open to joining us.

They’re saying it’s going to be down to Chelsea, United, Real, and Barca. I’m pretty sure United aren’t going to spend 30m+, and I just don’t see Barca or Real really needing him. I know they could both use them, but I think we’d be able to offer him the most consistent first-team action, and wage shouldn’t be an issue.

Are you sure?

ManUre reported net debt at less than half of what it was at its worst under the Glazers. They reported a net profit, after servicing bonds, of just about 30 m. I’d think they could manage this if they really wanted to. It might come down to what the Glazers might be demanding in profit and income for themselves.

Put it this way...

…there’s a reason they brought back Paul Scholes, rather than making a move for a big name.

Because everyone's overpriced and cup-tied in January

And they’d get a better deal if they wait until the summer?

It’s not necessarily financial

Swiss Ramble did a piece on United

Basically, a lot of the huge swing in loss to profit was due to a change in accounting practice. I’m not an accountant, so I don’t remember the exact details, but it more cosmetic than anything.

by Cablinasian on Jan 14, 2012 1:05 AM GMT up reply actions

I would like to agree here

that the changes they made were cosmetic, or so to say exploit the rules/regulations just to make figures in reports to look pretty. They have upped their revenue (and so, their profit) last season but 2010 they still had debts around 700m. Sure, summer 2010 is a long time ago and there are many measures to fix this but if they really amortized their debts (for real) then there is no other way than … pull in the cold hard cash

My United supporting friend vehemently disagrees with this notion

I’m not sure why (possibly that thing where they sold some of their shares on the Singapore stock market) but he seems pretty sure they’ve cleared almost all of their debt and got about £200M in the bank

by deg0ey on Jan 14, 2012 10:20 AM GMT up reply actions

United would surprise me.

If there’s one thing they have in abundance, it’s wide players. Maybe not of the quality of an Eden Hazard, but they should really be focusing on Javi Martinez and the like if they’re going to spend big.

by Cablinasian on Jan 14, 2012 1:07 AM GMT up reply actions

I want at least 6,5 mil if he goes to a PL team.

No less.

If he goes to a top club challenging for Europe : 5,5 mil.

If he goes to an average club abroad : 4,5 mil

If he goes to Brazil : 3,5 mil is fine

by theRamster on Jan 14, 2012 12:05 AM GMT reply actions

Surprised by all the "yes" votes

I think they are lowballing in a big way. We know how much of a transfer kitty they have to work with, and if they feel they need a CB, then they can pay above 5m for him. Even then, I would think he should have an equal fee to Cahill… if he hadnt requested a transfer we may never be worrying about having the supposed money grubber up for contention in our backline.

I think he could do well in Italy, if someone there is interested. PSG and a little love from Carlo could be good for him too. But I probably wouldnt even sell to QPR at all, if I had my druthers. Jerkfaces that they are! :P

by alynne4307 on Jan 14, 2012 12:57 AM GMT reply actions

Also...

It would be a little strange to submit a transfer request and not have some clubs in mind, no? Chelsea may just be going for the best offer, and maybe they’re waiting it out. But I agree with some others here that I’d only sell at a low rate if he was going to a location that doesnt really challenge against Chelsea. He isn’t worthless, he just needs some more consistency and is probably better with a lower defensive line.

Don't mean to change the subject

but is there any news on cesar azpilicueta

by CardinaLnGold on Jan 14, 2012 1:44 AM GMT reply actions

3.5m pounds?

Joke right?

The club will be very stupid to let him go for anything under than 10m pounds.

Then again everyone knows Chelsea have frozen out Alex so we have no choice but to let him go for the highest bid, be that even 4m pounds.

by el chelsea fuerte on Jan 14, 2012 2:10 AM GMT reply actions

Chelsea are in the position of weakness on this, however

So holding for a certain price would likely be a fruitless tactic. QPR know this, and so does every other club. By granting the transfer request and exiling Alex to the salt mines, Chelsea have put themselves into position where they can only hope that they’ll get a decent return on him…

by DPeezy on Jan 14, 2012 3:01 AM GMT up reply actions

Hell no

I don’t want to see him in the Premier League anyway. I’d hate to see him play well against us.

by The Bison on Jan 14, 2012 3:46 AM GMT reply actions

We gotta accept this one

Ever since casting him off we’ve a lot of negotiating power by allow him to come back be a non-option. QPR knows we have put ourselves in this position which is why they lowballed. I don’t think were going to find another team except Juventus (they appear to be keen on Caceres). Brazilian teams probably won’t give us anymore either. It’s tough, but I think we have to accept what the situation is.
