Around SBN: When Dwyane Wade Lost His Cool

Bye Nico

With Nicolas Anelka heading off to Shanghai and saying goodbye to Chelsea fans via Twitter, I figured this would be a good time to celebrate one of the most lethal finishers who's ever called Stamford Bridge home:

Au revoir, Nicolas, and good luck in China.

wow

I guess i never really realised how deadly him and Drogs were, wasn’t there complaints that they couldn’t play together?

Only early on, I believe. I mean, there may have been minor issues later on, but they became friendly, I think.

There was a belief that they could not play together, yes

Until Mother Guus showed everybody how to properly motivate the two of them to the contrary.

Carlo then tried to work a similar sort of magic with Drogba & Torres…but alas, that was/is not to be…

it actually never made sense but Scolari was stubborn about it

their games were always quite complementary. Anelka while having a big stature also reled more on his mobility, pace and skill … his game and Drogba’s are not carbon copies at all. but yeah Hiddink got Anelka to accept a wing spot and respect to Anelka for adapting his game … Drogba as well for using his playmaking skills more.

Just realized the formatting in the title did not stick. That really takes away from the reference.

Can't tell you how much I enjoyed the video.

2 things that I noticed-
1. A large no. of his goals were 1-on-1 with the keeper (either scoring to the left or right or top or rounding him up) which shows how good a striker he is.
2. A large no. of his goals were against the smaller teams.

FAREWELL NICO: ANELKA has left us all a farewell message:

Hello everybody,
I wanted to thank each of you for all the support that you always brought to me.
I love the time I spent in Chelsea, it is a famous club where I met talented players and coaches as well as very good friends. I also enjoyed London and all the wonderful things I lived there.
But all good things come to an end and it is time for me, at my early 33’s, to move to a new adventure with a new life, another rhythm and another universe.
I am impatient to discover Shanghai and this new environment. You will be regularly updated about my Chinese stories.

See you soon

Nico

how much did we sell him for?

or was he just a gift to our fans in China?

by Sack O'Gonads on Jan 13, 2012 8:35 PM GMT reply actions

There was a transfer fee

No reliable source on what that fee might have been

I don't know what it shall mean that I feel so sad ... (from Loreley song)

But I am – so – a bit disappointed you didn’t get a Goodbye game, Nico, I know the circumstances weren’t right, but of course you deserved it … I thank you for everything you’ve done for us, I try to forget Moscow … and I sincerely wish you every happiness of the world in your future career, and hope you do well in Shanghai!

*Tears*

Anelka was a great player for the club, and Ill always remember running around the house doing his butterfly celebration after a goal.

godamnit i miss him already. and his little sly smile.

we should have kept him, he has been the most in form out of all our old strikers.

by chris hh on Jan 13, 2012 11:47 PM GMT reply actions

but his roster spot definitely had to be filled

both as an int’l player and as a winger-forward. he deserves to play regularly b/c he is still a top player and that doesn’t work with what Chelsea are trying to build. but yeah much respect to Anelka and wish him the best !

by dojothecat on Jan 14, 2012 5:11 AM GMT up reply actions

A bummer...

because he seemed to be the type that could play providing winger, maybe more than any of the other forwards. But, I can’t blame him for being excited about a new adventure that pays him some big bucks and lets him be the star attraction.

Hard to fault a guy for cashing in one last GIANT payday...

We’d all do it on our own little “professional” careers, too…

by DPeezy on Jan 14, 2012 3:07 AM GMT up reply actions

yeah and he understands the plan for Chelsea going future

he showed respect for the team and AVB and acknowledges that his wing spot is going to be filled by a younger player … i am glad that he gets to exit this way, with dignity and respect. he had developed a bad reputation but with Chelsea he was never anything but a model teammate. i’m glad he got this contract and will get to experience a new chapter in his football career; the dude will clearly appreciate a new culture …

by dojothecat on Jan 14, 2012 5:09 AM GMT up reply actions

And as he hinted at it himself

at his age, it is perfectly reasonable and makes sense
