Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Friday Bits And Pieces
We're almost halfway through the January transfer window now and so far we've barely had a sniff of anything interesting (Gary Cahill is not interesting). But there are murmurings of things going on right no so it's probably best to round them up right here. Let's take a look at the main storylines, from least to most sexy:
Josh McEachran
Glad that's all finally wrapped up then. McEachran deserves some time - he's obviously not ready to start for Chelsea yet, but he's still incredibly young and hopefully he gets enough time with the Swans to aid his development. I suppose we've got a second-favourite Premier League team now.
Alex
Chelsea have apparently turned down a £3M bid from Queens Park Rangers for the want-away Brazilian defender. I'd a) prefer more money for him and b) prefer to sell Alex overseas (to Juventus perhaps?), and that's probably the angle the club are taking too. It's funny how annoyed we get with the idea of selling a player within the league just in case they come back to bite us. If they're not good enough to play for Chelsea, we shouldn't be too concerned about them going to a direct opponent. Of course, there's some question as to whether Alex really isn't good enough to play anymore and I certainly don't to see Ashley Cole decapitated by one of his free kicks, sooo...
Gary Cahill
Chelsea failed to comes with Bolton defender Gary Cahill in time to be registered for the match against Sunderland, but that's probably not a big deal. There's plenty of window left. Andre Villas-Boas is making noises about alternatives, but you'd have to suspect that that's just a negotiation ploy in trying to get Cahill to come down from his rather unreasonable-sounding wage demands.
For as long as the rumour of Cahill to Chelsea has been floating around, two things have been obvious to me. First, he's not good enough to start regularly. Second, he'll want to play or be compensated for a lack of ability to get into the team. This is a recipe for a bad deal, and I won't be happy if Chelsea cave into ridiculous demands from a bench player. If he gets his hundred grand a week I might cry.

Well duh.
Eden Hazard
The Mail is reporting that Chelsea 'plan' on lodging a £25M bid for Eden Hazard. That will not get Chelsea Eden Hazard, and it certainly won't get them the Belgian international this month. Saying the Blues plan on bidding £25M for Hazard is sort of like saying I'm planning on offering the driver of the Maserati that nearly ran me over the other day a few hundred dollars for his car.
I think we all know that getting Hazard would be pretty awesome and it would give Chelsea a real opportunity to play around with their shape. It's nice that we're being linked to such a good player, and we've got as good a shot as any of actually getting him eventually, but at this point I'd be surprised if he left Lille before summertime.

If we're gunna spend a crap load of money on a player
Who better than Hazard at the moment?
If we spent another 70mil this month and 7mil was for Cahill I wouldn’t be bothered if the rest all went on Hazard. I don’t see it happening but still… Since this time last year I think Roman’s personal fortune has gone up by like over a billion.
If we spent 70 - 7 = 63m
on Hazard then I predict some car might be smashed on the next highway. Or anything similar. Seriously: 63m are way too much for Hazard. For any player, to be precise

I didn't say we should spend that or that he's worth it.
One could argue no player was worth any more than 1mil.
I just said i wouldn’t mind it. IMO he’s the missing piece in our puzzle.
And
would you honestly moan if we spent that much? I mean I know there’s FFP, but we’re in a competition for 4th place right now and that could cost us like 50mil if we miss out. With a player like Hazard on the left, Mata in the middle and Sturridge on the right behind Torres I can’t see us missing out on CL. Therefore we would have paid 13mil for him.
Getting a top four spot and possibly facing sanctions is better than being prudent and missing out all together
Hazard
Seeing as his release clause is €40 million I would certainly moan a lot, it would just be giving money away needlessly

Who said his release clause was €40mil?
What i read was that he was worth at least €40mil and in the summer. Again I’m not saying we should ring them up in the morning and offer £63mil. I’m saying IF we decide to splash out a crap load like last year I wouldn’t mind.
Yeah, people have taken the quotes from Lille's Sprting Director
As referenced by Stephen here and misinterpreted them to mean that he has a release clause of €40M (which from the wording of those quotes is clearly untrue)
If in fact he did have such a reasonable release clause, I’m fairly sure one of Europe’s big guns would have paid it already and there wouldn’t still be a debate about where he was likely to end up.
"Moan" is a hard word
but I’d not cry out in joy if we did that either. I know the prices are inflating, and I certainly did not mean Hazard isn’t a great player. Just like the Hulks and Neymars of the world – him in a Chelsea shirt is a damn hot prospect. But whether with or without FFP I hope we don’t spend ridiculous money on any player, not even for the hottest this planet has to offer, and maybe just for the sake of reason even if we could afford it. Just only we could afford to pay that amount doesn’t mean we should. And paying crazy money for transfer targets does have an aftermath, it’s not only you spent crazy money and finally everything’s over and fine. It sets a mark. We see it from our transfer history already. After we paid that sum for Sheva, everytime we seem to be interested and the price goes up. Agents and scumbag presidents/clubs even use our name to up the bids. And more so after we broke the bank for Torres. Now after the Sheva deal, we sort of calmed down a bit, and now after everything we did last January it would be wise to do the same instead of throwing in cash again and again to turn up that spiral. Once we throw in that sum again, it will rise and rise to no end till even we fall out, FFP or not.

Better player then Hazard to spend on
Mario Gotze he is better and his proved himself in a tougher league and can play anywhere on the wings and center of the pitch and is even younger and is more of a playmaker that our team is lacking and will help unlock defense.
I don't think we need a playmaker.
I think we need a winger that could provide pace and nice crosses. From the little I’ve seen and the lot that i’ve heard Hazard could provide that. and i was just saying if we bought a CB and a forward for 70mil like last January i would mind if most of it was on Hazard. Not that we should definitely do it.
Gotze
He is versatile, plays on the wing for Germany and Dortmund, he is also an option
by CFCdiscussions on Jan 13, 2012 6:52 PM GMT up reply actions
I thought he was staying in Germany?
Whereas Hazard is almost definitely leaving Lille this year. But yeah I’m not saying Hazard is the only player to get. Just that we need (IMO) a left winger. I think both would provide the same thing. Between Hazard/Gotze Mata and Sturridge we’d get plenty of goals and enough creativity that Torres would have to start scoring. Also Danny, Mata and Hazard/Gotze could all switch around whilst playing allowing them all a lot of freedom. It would also stop Torres from having to drop deep.
As things are now
he’s standing, vowing for at least 2013. Of course everything could happen in between, since summer 2013 is a damn, damn long time. But at least this would probably mean he won’t move now, but that’s no big surprise either, 2013 or not
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I still think we need a playmaker
Mata is the only player who provides decent through balls, after that the most playmaking player is Essien (excluding Josh) so if in any game Mata doesperform well Chelsea is virtually without any playmaker
I've heard that Alex is looking move abroad, rather than to Q.P.R.
Could be a rumour, though.

I could see him maybe going to PSG
We know that Carlo likes to bring in guys he’s worked with before and Alex is easily good enough to do a job for them.
His agent said he wanted to be back in Brazil
But apparently no club had the kind of money Chelsea was asking to take him.

From what I've seen, Kalou finished well for his goal
Drogba’s goal was from the penalty spot.
Fittingly, Cheick Tiote was sent off for Ivory Coast towards the end.
Has anyone but me
Heard about the rumors of Juventus interest on Torres? Apparently Chelsea is asking for £45m to get rid of him.
