Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Blues Angling For Real Madrid Star?
Some interesting rumblings out of Spain today as the ever-unreliable Marca believe that a Premier League club has just offered £38M for the services of Real Madrid's Angel di Maria. Oh, and that it's probably Chelsea, because Andre Villas-Boas is a big fan and already tried to land him last summer.
On the face of things, this would be perfect. The Argentinian is one of the top wide players in the world, and has probably been the second best player on Jose Mourinho's squad (when fit) this year. Landing him would solve many of Chelsea's problems in an instant, and £38M isn't unreasonable for a player of that calibre. Unfortunately, it's incredibly unlikely to happen. Why? Just read into di Maria's supposed motivation here:
(Warning: Google translated!)
At 23, [di Maria] feels very comfortable in Madrid and Madrid. It has the confidence of Mourinho and has adapted quickly to the city, where his friendship with Higuain has been decisive. However, the unfairness of pay and performance between Di Maria and other players is causing Angel is seriously considering his future.
Yeah, this is about money, and if I had to guess, I'd say Chelsea are being used as a boogeyman by the player's agent in negotiations for a new contract. We've seen this before in the never-ending Sergio Ramos rumours, and now it's happening again. Here's how this will go - there'll be no further talk of him this window but the rumours will come back this summer and then di Maria will sign a gigantic new contract with Real Madrid sometime before the start of the season and we'll all be disappointed.
There are two or three teams in the world that we're not stealing top attacking players from, and Madrid is one of them. Don't get your hopes up here.

…as soon as you mentioned Marca, everything else beyond that is null and void. Its amazing they stay in business really.

I'm sure they have a good source
This’ll be a message directly from Angel di Maria’s agent.

Maybe just because of that?
When I have a glance at some major publishing houses and their products it often seems that this is actually what sells best … :(
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I have a soft spot for Di Maria
Largely due to this

Love that car, too.
I guess it’s different if you’ve got the money, I would’ve kicked the living shit out of the guy with the spray paint, even with the police right next to me.
That was a pretty pathetic attempt at a kick actually

Angel D is great
Very under-rated. Marca is an unreliable source, no doubt, but with Real’s collection of forwards, it wouldn’t be a shock for Mourinho to think he could get by without him. Especially if Neymar is somewhere in the pipe-line.
As for this:
“has probably been the second best player on Jose Mourinho’s squad (when fit) this year”
Behind CR, or behind Ozil?
CR
I haven’t been that impressed with Ozil this year

Ronaldo has been great with the goal-scoring
A lot of Real Madrid fans say that Ozil is the future
Ozil
I bet Ozil gets sold in a year or two. Last year he was phenomenal, this year he’s meh (for his standards). Seems like players only depreciate (value wise) at Real Madrid*. I think he’s going to move on in a year or two and I’d love, love, love for Chelsea to go after him and slot him between Mata and Sturridge.
- Not really depreciate since Real Madrid got him for a steal (like Sahin and Khedira) but his value after this season is probably 70% of what it was last year.
Ozil is being destroyed by Madrid
With players like Di Maria and CR7 around him who dont give a shit about teamwork he is not gonna be impressive.Look at Germany where Ozil Mulller and Podolski work as a unit.
Di Maria leads the league and team in assists right now..
…though he’s out with injury. I win either way..but he’s the best option out on the wing.

Oh god yes
Even if it is a pipe dream this is exactly the sort of player we should be linked with-he’d be worth breaking the bank for.
I’d also love it if we went after Higuain-Benzema seems to be firmly in place as first choice.
But he's not really..
….Mou rotates the two, or as he’s been doing since Di Maria went down is to play them both at the same time. And so far it’s worked out decent enough.

Marca
1970 - 1984 - 2010
"Vamos Fluzão, vamos ganhar
Eu sou do clube tantas vezes campeão!
Vim pra torcer, vim pra gritar
E por você a vida inteira vou cantar!"
He gives Busquets a run for his money in the diving category. Combine that with the fact
that the prem is more physical and we have a Olympic gold medalist on our hands.
Complete BS anyways. Mou wouldn’t sell, especially to us.
THIS!
I was just about to post that I might be the only person here that wouldnt want him around. Even huge Madrid fans will tell you that they cringe when they watch him dive. We dont need someone that will guarantee us yellow cards galore… we’ve got enough of those as is :)
Oh yeah....while I was reading the previous comments....I was surprised nobody mentioned abt his diving skills before...
I just hate players who dive for no reason…its even worse when he clings his face, stays on ground…and peeps through his fingers to check if the other payer has got booked or not…
Conclusion : No thanks ADM
Cheers,

But the real diving king is the great CR7
Busquets and DI Maria have still a lot to learn from the diving king

All of these guys are clearly...
….better actors than all those Leeds players yesterday who went looking for a foot to trip over after their first touches went awry.
Angling for Angel?
Good one, Graham. But I thought we already have Kalou.

don't forget that his best friend is david luiz though
he is also close with ramires. i don’t think it would be absurd for him to have interest
He was close to Ramires and David Luiz so...
that could help IF we wanted to pursue the player, and then Di Maria could help IF we wanted to pursue Higuain.

Di Maria and Higuain
Yeah right. Real won’t sell both and if they do they won’t sell them to the same team. They’d be giving that team all the offensive fire power needed to knock out RM in UEFA.
Di Maria
The only possible way this ever happens is if Real are moving him so they can bring in Neymar. Neither Neymar nor Di Maria would be okay not starting so the only way RM gets rid of their 2nd best player who’s just 23 is if they are doing it to bring in Neymar. They don’t need the money, he’s not getting old, there is no real reason to sell him.
However, I don’t think he fits our needs either. This guy can play with his right but is a much, much better player attacking from the right. He’s not a left winger. Mata and Sturridge both favor coming in from the right so I don’t see how adding a 3rd RW helps. Maybe Di Maria would be asked to score less and create more and he can do that at LW, allowing Mata to move inside where he likes to play, but Di Maria is much scarier in a Real Madrid jersey than an Argentina jersey and that’s because at Argentina he often plays on the left. The thing that scares me the most about a Di Maria, Mata, and Sturridge line is that none of them are any good at playing defense. Trusting the back six to account for 100% of the defense seems suicidal. Unless we retain close to 70% possession we’d be run over by charging fullbacks and holding MFs. Sadly, we don’t even have a great defensive winger on the bench to bring on for defensive cover once we go up 2+ goals. Actually, i wouldn’t mind seeing Bertrand, Ferreira or even Luiz sometimes come on for Mata or Sturridge when we’re winning by more than a goal. Who cares if they are offensively lacking, we’re winning, we have more defensive cover and all three are actually very comfortable on the ball and seem likely to be decent at retaining some offensive threat.
