Rangers vs Chelsea FC final pre-season gamethread
Chelsea Lineup: Cech, Ferriera, Alex, Terry, Cole, Mikel, Ramires, Lampard, Kalou, Torres, Sturridge
Subs: Turnbull, Bosingwa, Chalobah, Kalas, McEachran, Benayoun, Malouda, Anelka, Drogba
It looks like we'll be playing a 4-3-3 type of formation, it will be interesting to see where Ramires and Lampard are generally playing. I really like the Sturridge/Kalou wing pairing, the matchup issues they can create should be awfully fun to watch.
Rangers: McGregor, McMillan, Bartley, Broadfoot, Wallace, Hutton, Davis, Edu, Ortiz, Naismith, Jelavic
Subs: Alexander, Bendiksen, Fleck, Ness, Kerkar, Perry, Little, Hemmings, Beattie
It's hard to say how Rangers will approach this one, but they traditionally sit back in a very defensive formation when they reach the Champions League. Hopefully they'll be a little more open for a friendly, but I suppose getting another taste of ultra defensive play will be good preparation for what we'll likely see in a week. The games start to count after this one, so let's hope for a good showing today.

Hopefully it's a fun match.
The rumors of today’s starting lineup being AVB’s first choice XI were incorrect, I’m guessing.
Care to describe it?
I’ve been watching for five minutes and Rangers haven’t taken the ball out of their own half.
careless giveaway by Mikel, I think
they break with three men, and we only have our two centre backs marking them. Free man on the left receives cross right in front of goal and heads it in.
Looked a bit like MIkel could’ve made more effort to get back, but I’d need to see the replay.
Thanks
I figured it would be a break but I wasn’t sure Rangers were capable of stringing enough passes together.
I'd love to see him stay with Arsenal this season
How soul crushing will it be when he leaves on a free?

Wenger is stubborn enough that he just might

They won't, but I doubt they'll be refused a license anyway
There aren’t set punishments outlined in the document, the “ban” from Europe is simply media speculation. I’d guess we just see fines and a warning to be nicer.

I think we're ok, we just need our guys to cover ground
When Frank drifts forward he’s just not getting back. Nando is taking up his place in the defense

I don't think it's all by choice
Every time Lamps comes forward he’s literally walking back

When bombing it at Droggles it makes sense
It will be a good pan with Lukaku as well. Won’t work with this forward line though

I'm not too worried
He wants to come, they know they need to sell, and we want him. The price will be worked out.

loving the high pressure play.
just tuned in, thought it was at 5:15, damn you chelsea tv, didnt know it was an ‘exculsive’ replay…. bah
Good deal
That’s a great deal for a guy who barely played for two years. I like Zhirkov and wish him well
Took us a while to settle in, but we seem to have been doing alright since about the 20 minute mark.
As for your quote in the original post:
“I really like the Sturridge/Kalou wing pairing, the matchup issues they can create should be awfully fun to watch.”
All I can add is that as fun as it might be, it can’t be anywhere near as fun as a Sturridge/Lukaku pairing :p
I'm actually really curious to see a wing pairing of Sturridge and Torres
Torres was sensational today, he covered a ton of ground and looked great on the wing. I wouldn’t be surprised if our front 3 are Torres/Drogs/Sturridge for Stoke

Sturridge is banned against Stoke...
Got a straight red in the last game of the season, so it’s a 3 match ban at the beginning of the next. But yes, in principle that could work. Torres has always liked drifting in from the left (as evidenced in the goals he scored against us last season)
Forgot about that
Still hope we go Drogs/Torres

He was a beast in the U19's last week
Probably would have won player of the tournament if the final had only been 87 minutes long

I'm thinking either Yossi or McEachran (probably Yossi) will start
over Frank against stoke.
I doubt it for Stoke, just because he's Lampard, they're still Stoke, and it's the opener
I think he’ll be a part timer this year though

Yeah quite possible AVB goes with some bulk for Stoke,
but Benayoun can try and avoid the contact with Drogba as CF.
He keeps holding the ball and dribbling away from the goal
Frank is at least moving the ball when he gets there, Anelka is killing the flow for the entire team so we keep having to reset

Yeah but he has also been involved in all the best link ups,
whereas Frank was nowhere to be seen.
What a horrible finish by Anelka,
but what play by Benayoun
hey everyone, woke up late and missed the first hour or so
how has josh looked and who got our goals??

Interesting?
Chalobah for Lampard, who is gonna move into MF?
Chalobah
He happens to be the main reason I’m not that concerned about a certain Spaniards buyback
