Chelsea seem to be putting a real effort into adding some world class attackers to a already defensively loaded youth system, and reports out of Scotland suggest that we just made further inroads in that department. Islam Feruz has one of the more interesting stories you'll hear and rather than rehashing it I'll simply provide you all a link to the story that ran after his international debut. Currently only 15, the Somalian born Scottish youth national player has been getting his club education at Celtic. He's been a big time target of both Manchester clubs for some time now, but it seems we've swooped in and stolen him out from under their noses.
Feruz is a smallish (but strong) speedy striker, but at just 15 years of age (he turns 16 next month) he's probably not done growing yet. The youngster has also got some experience as an attack minded central midfielder much the way Gael Kakuta played at Lens. He's very good with the ball at his feet, and he's fairly technically sound for a player his age. He's also fairly sound in the air despite being on the shortish side. He was one of the best players on the Scottish U17 team this past spring as they almost qualified for the European championships, falling just short in the elite round. That's actually where I got my first look at him as he was fantastic against Tomas Kalas and the Czech team. He's obviously a long way from being a first teamer, but after the jump I'll have a little video look at him so you can see what we might have.
Feruz is reportedly going to join the club after his 16th birthday next month, so he'll likely factor into the youth team season soon. Welcome to Chelsea Islam, I'm very excited to see you join the academy.
