So Chelsea got their man after all, and they didn't pay through the nose for him. Chelsea have confirmed that the midfielder has joined the Blues on a four-year deal after Liverpool accepted a £12M transfer fee for him. Wages are currently unknown. That solves one of the more pressing issues in terms of midfield depth, giving Chelsea a very good (and horribly underrated, if I'm bothering to listen to Twitter) player who can ease the burden on the squad.
Here's the roundup...
In: Raul Meireles (Liverpool, £12M, 4-year-deal).
Out: Yossi Benayoun (Arsenal, season loan), Gael Kakuta (Bolton Wanderers, 1/2 season loan), Patrick van Aanholt (Wigan Athletic, season loan), Ulises Davila (Vitesse Arnhem, season loan).
How're we feeling about this one, guys? Chelsea gave us all a heart attack before doing something immensely sneaky at the very very last minute, but is Meireles enough? One thing's for sure - Andre Villas Boas was right when he said the last say would be exciting. I just didn't expect him to pack ll of the excitement into 45 minutes.
Welcome to Stamford Bridge, Raul.
