Well as I write this Chuck Blazer has been terminated from his position of general secretary of CONCACAF! It seems this situation is turning real ugly, real quick. With the FIFA presidential elections coming up later today, and Sepp Blatter running unopposed there seems to be quite a few different takes on this situation parlaying onto conspiracy theories!
1. Chuck Blazer is just plain pissed at Qatar because the US didn't win the vote,
This is definitely a possibility, although it has something of the sore loser feel to it, which is the card the English FA have been playing since they lost.
2. Chuck Blazer just had no idea about corruption inside FIFA before this, and is going on a one man mission to clean up FIFA's act!
Yeah, Blazer clearly has an ulterior motive for the allegations
3. Blatter feels like he was going to lose the election!
This is definitely a possibility with Warner's association with Bin Hammam, Warner has more power to who gets voted than any other member, being the president of a federation that consists of more countries than any other! And with both out of the way, Blatter runs unopposed!
This whole situation is laughable and it is ridiculous to feel that Blatter should be allowed to run unopposed, what is the point of an election? Now the English FA and the Scottish FA have made calls for the election to be postponed, but no other countries seems to be backing up these FA's. Probably the aspect that leaves the worst taste in the mouth is that Blatter was cleared by the ethics committee of having any prior knowledge of these goings-on!!! This guy reminds me of Tommy from Pinball Wizard - Deaf, Dumb and Blind!!! Seeing that the rest of the world knows that Warner is as crooked as they come, how is it that Blatter has no idea? It seems more of a case of don't bite that hand that feeds you, seeing that there is no governing board to regulate their dubious transactions! That is the real problem here, there is no real consequence for their illegal actions, if they were a real corporation, practically all of FIFA's valuable ExCo's (Executive Committee members) would be imprisoned for many, many years!
So this comes to my final point, what is the solution?
Do we pull out of FIFA?:- this seems like a popular view with most of the population, however this could be hugely damaging for our national team and the future state of English football! If we pull out, then we will have an international boycott placed on our nation, this would mean that any player playing the English leagues would not be able to represent their country! This would mean that all foreign players who have the drive of playing international football, or at least try and make the national team, to leave the English game, especially when there are very high standard leagues in Spain, Italy and Germany just waiting to pounce! Secondly this could create an English exclusion from the Champions League, it is unlikely but not impossible, due to UEFA being a contemporary of FIFA, but not controlled by FIFA, but that would cause even greater damage to our league!
Do we pull out of FIFA with a group of the biggest European FA's?: This is definitely a possibility, whereby we create a European super-league of sorts, however this would cause situations where we may never play against great footballing nations who decide not to join us (Brazil, Argentina and the European FA's who refuse!), and this would be a sad sight.
Finally; this is my own personal view, but I feel that we should pull out of FIFA with the biggest footballing nations, right before the 2014 World Cup, and force a merger with FIFA whereby we control the inner going-ons at their HQ, and allow more power to be controlled by these nations, rather than a one vote for each country system! Now I know it sounds unfair on these smaller nations, but who are the countries that give Warner their power? It's all the tiny Caribbean countries like Trinidad and Tobago or St. Kitts and Nevis or Haiti, the list is endless! These countries can still receive their money from FIFA, but told in no uncertain terms that the English FA has the power to push through any changes they wish with a 90 or 100% majority of the 8 or 9 major FA's, and the power to veto any motions from anyone outside of the big FA's! Basically football's equivalent to the United Nations, and each representing member is placed there by that countries FA! With strict financial regulations and complete transparency with everything FIFA does! This would be the total football utopia in my eyes!
Would like to see everyone's comments on this whole farce!
