Chelsea FC loan roundup - 12/1/11

Photo

It's been a noteworthy week for several of the Chelsea youngsters on their loan spells, and unfortunatley some of them continue to be missing in action. Let's get right to the action then...

  • Jeffrey Bruma - Bruma had another exceptional weekend for Hamburg, finding the back of the net for the second time this season. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, but honestly there was nothing to be done about the Hannover goal (which may be the goal of the season in Germany thus far). Bruma's goal can be found here if you'd like to watch it. Bruma was on the bench for Hamburg's midweek friendly against Rangers (they played Mancienne and Rajkovic), but it would be a real shocker if he wasn't again starting when Hamburg host Nurnberg this Sunday.
  • Tomas Kalas - The other Chelsea center back out on loan had another efficient outing for Vitesse. The game this past weekend with Twente ended in a 0-0 draw with chances hard to come by for both teams. Kalas again was a MotM contender, he's been exceptional so far this year.
  • Ulises Davila - Davila was again left out of the 18 man squad for Vitesse, but he again started and scored for their reserves. All reports on him have been fairly positive, Vitesse just have loads of similar talent in the squad. With the club struggling to score lately he may get his chance this weekend against Waalwijk.

Star-divide

  • Thibaut Courtois - Courtois had an eventful week. He looked solid early versus Real Madrid before taking out Karim Benzema and earning his first red. He bounced back with a commanding display yesterday as Atletico secured advancement in the Europa league, maintaining yet another clean sheet against Celtic. Here's his takeout against Real:

    • Patrick van Aanholt - I'm not sure he's not dead and buried somewhere in the Wigan training grounds. Wigan left him off the squad sheet for the 6th straight game last weekend as the club actually won. I can't imagine that Chelsea is going to allow him to stay there come 1/1 if he's still in the Roberto Martinez' basket, and I'd be surprised if he was involved when Wigan plays Arsenal this weekend.
    • Gael Kakuta - Any chance we'd get to see Kakuta again this weekend probably went out the window 19 minutes in when Bolton went down to 10 men. Bolton host Spurs this weekend, so here's hoping Gael gets a chance to stick it to a rival.
    • Conor Clifford - Clifford again started and was subbed midway through the 2nd half. He's been impressing the coaching staff at Yeovil thus far, and reports today suggest that the club is very interested in extending his loan spell. So far so good for Clifford, but it would be nice to see him make the jump to the Championship.
    • Sam Walker - Walker had another rough one against Plymouth Argyle, allowing 4 goals to slip by him during the contest. With the recent coaching change, I worry about whether or not Sam will end up getting a spell on the bench if these performances keep up. The defense there is in shambles though, so all blame can't be placed on Walker.
That pretty much wraps it up for this week as the most impressive looking players continue to be in the defense and net. Here's hoping the Premier League guys get some time on the pitch soon, but with the opposition in store this week it seems doubtful.

[Off Topic] Bundesliga Goal of the Season

Schlaudraff’s volley was fantastic, but I think I’d go with Derdiyok’s stunner against Wolfsburg.

    Sam Walker

Tough to blame just the keeper. That whole club is in shambles right now. Barely above the relegation zone of League 2 and fourth manager in four games. Jeebus!

Courtois committed what I would usually classify as a "practical foul", but screwed up by using both legs

There was no way the defense was stopping that player, so he did what he thought was necessary. Although he jumped in with both legs, and ended up screwing himself over. On a whole, good in theory, bad in practice.

    ALSO

Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty kick is a bunch of bullshit. You aren’t allowed to pretend to run at the ball!

They made Messi retake one like that

The inconsistency with refereeing (among all big leagues) is quite unfortunate.

    Basically none

He’s on a full season loan, and I doubt they recall him. He has an option for next season that I doubt will be exercised.

    [Off Topic] I'm really happy

to read Hutchinson signed a new contract. There are not many things that make me happy since we lost that holy sh*t on Tuesday but this makes me feel good. Wow

most news from the UK are put up in the morning UK time and chances are you don’t get them immediately (though this news was not) :)
